West Indies take 1-0 lead over Bangladesh in ICC World Test Championship series
The ICC reported that West Indies took a 1-0 lead over Bangladesh in their 2-game ICC World Test Championship series after a strong Day 4 effort in Mirpur. Bangladesh began the day at 79/6, already in a precarious position, and Jomel Warrican gave West Indies an early advantage by dismissing Jaker Ali.
Jaker edged Warrican’s delivery to Roston Chase at the slips, while Nayeem Hasan’s 52 provided resistance for Bangladesh. On the slow track, Warrican and Chase proved difficult to face, and Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 142.
Chase led the tourists’ bowling with figures of 5/36, recording his fifth five-for in the format. After a slender first-innings lead, West Indies had a target of 170 to win, and their openers John Campbell and Brandon King handled the task against Bangladesh’s spinners.
Bangladesh had started with Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam, with the team aware that its spinners could be a handful on the track. The series now moves to Sylhet for the second Test, which begins on November 5.
