Conrad says South Africa can improve after Australia series win
The ICC reported that South Africa coach Shukri Conrad views the Proteas' 2-1 Test series victory over Australia as a starting point, not a finished achievement. The home-soil series win lifted South Africa to second in the World Test Championship standings as the side seeks to reach next year's final.
Conrad said he expects further improvement and believes there are still one or two things that could make the team its best version. The ICC report said South Africa has home series against Bangladesh, involving two Tests, and England, involving three Tests, plus two fixtures against Sri Lanka remaining in the cycle.
Conrad described the best XI as a work in progress and said he would keep rotating players while seeking combinations suited to each Test and series. That approach may involve difficult selection decisions and opportunities for new players, including Marques Ackerman and Matthew Breetzke, who featured against Australia.
