Namibia make history with Ireland ODI series triumph
Namibia made history on Sunday by defeating Ireland by 5 wickets in Windhoek to win their first bilateral ODI series against a Full Member. The victory gave Namibia a 3-2 result in the 5-match series, played on home soil.
Pacers JJ Smith and Jack Brassell shared 7 wickets as Ireland were bowled out for 129. Opener Louren Steenkamp scored 42 and captain Gerhard Erasmus made 30, helping Namibia complete the chase and secure the series triumph.
Erasmus was named Player of the Series after scoring 263 runs and taking 4 wickets across the 5 matches. Smith was Player of the Match in the finale, taking 4/20 from 9 overs; only four Ireland players reached double figures, and captain Lorcan Tucker called it a disappointing day for his side.
