Bangladesh and West Indies: Warrican’s five-for headlines eventful Day 2

Bangladesh were bowled out for 272 on the second morning of the first ICC World Test Championship Test against the West Indies, after resuming at 213/3. The hosts lost their last 7 wickets for 59 runs as West Indies left-arm spinners Jomel Warrican and debutant Joshua Bishop took 7 wickets between them.

Bishop sparked the collapse by dismissing Shadman Islam for 105 shortly after the opener reached his third Test century. Towhid Hridoy, who had retired hurt on the opening evening, lasted two balls after returning before Bishop dismissed him.

Warrican breached Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s defence, while Shamar Joseph removed Nayeem Hasan and Hasan Mahmud in quick succession. Warrican finished with 5/53, dismissing Taijul Islam and Shoriful Islam off successive deliveries to end the innings. The West Indies began their reply positively, with John Campbell benefiting from two early dropped chances; Brandon King then edged Hasan Mahmud to substitute wicketkeeper Jaker Ali.
