Pakistan and England: Arafat Minhas makes ODI history with 59 and 6/40

Arafat Minhas became the third men's player from Pakistan to score a half-century and take five wickets in the same ODI, earning Player of the Match against England in Rawalpindi on Tuesday. He made 59 and took 6/40 as Pakistan defeated England by 87 runs.

The achievement has occurred 25 times in men's ODIs, and Arafat joined Pakistan players Shahid Afridi, who did it three times, and Abdul Razzaq, who did it once. At 21, Arafat had played 12 senior internationals and five ODIs; his 59 came from 58 deliveries as Pakistan posted 302/9.

His six-wicket return included England captain Harry Brook and Adil Rashid, Will Jacks and Jamie Overton. Arafat said the slower pitch helped him and that varying line and length, along with bowling variations, was important to unsettle batters.

The report noted that spinners had received little help in the first match. Shaheen described Arafat's form and that of the fast bowlers as good signs, and called the young player a talented, genuine all-rounder.
