Australia and South Africa: Renshaw, Green partnerships shape Cape Town Test

The ICC reported that Australia took control in Cape Town on Day 2 of the deciding fixture in its ICC World Test Championship series against South Africa. South Africa had made 329 in its first innings, and Australia reached 184 for 2 before Marco Jansen struck.

Matt Renshaw and Cameron Green had steadied Australia with a 126-run third-wicket stand, each making a gritty half-century. Jansen dismissed Renshaw for 74, reaching his 100th Test wicket, then removed Green for 65 shortly afterwards.

Josh Inglis and Alex Carey carried Australia through to tea after those wickets, then added an unbeaten 145-run partnership. Inglis was 85 not out and Carey 51 not out as Australia took the lead during a final session in which no wickets fell.

Earlier, Travis Head and Renshaw had put on a brisk 58-run opening stand for Australia. The ICC report’s account placed that start before Renshaw and Green’s stand, Jansen’s two strikes and the unbeaten partnership that put Australia ahead.
