Bangladesh and West Indies: Shadman Islam anchors 213/3 on day one

An ICC report said Bangladesh closed the opening day of the first ICC World Test Championship against West Indies at 213/3, with Shadman Islam unbeaten on 99 in Mirpur. Bangladesh had elected to bat, but West Indies made an encouraging start as disciplined lines, seam movement and variable bounce troubled the top order.

Jayden Seales took the first wicket when Tanzid Hasan edged outside off stump to Justin Greaves at slip for seven. Shadman stayed composed under pressure, finding boundaries when bowlers strayed into his hitting areas and building his innings patiently against the West Indies attack.

Mominul Haque made 28 before stepping out to Jomel Warrican and hitting the ball to mid-off. Shadman reached his 10th Test half-century in the 35th over with a single off Seales, then continued to punish loose deliveries while negotiating the bowling threat.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto looked positive before Warrican claimed his second wicket. Shanto attempted a paddle sweep, missed and was given out LBW for 19; a successful review overturned the on-field decision.
